At Jack’s Caregiver Coalition, our passion for helping Caregivers runs deep. Every day, we see the extraordinary strength it takes to be a Caregiver, and we’re committed to being a community where Caregivers can find the support they need. For #GivetotheJacksDay on November 21st, we aim to raise $40,000 with the help of our Jack’s Member Fund, which will match donations up to $20,000. Our team is sharing why we are so passionate about supporting Caregivers. Creating a Welcoming Community
“I support Jack’s because it’s one of the only communities specifically for male Caregivers. While I don’t have personal caregiving experience, I see the profound impact it has on our Jack’s members.
Hospitality is a big part of Jack’s Caregiver Coalition, extended to both Caregivers and the talent who support them. This focus on creating a welcoming environment allows Caregivers to focus on themselves—which isn’t always easy to do. I often hear how surprised people are by Jack’s. They come expecting to attend just once, but they end up coming back again and again. Hearing this is incredibly encouraging, especially knowing how hard it must have been for them to ask for help in the first place.” – Haley Kline The First Step to Support
“For me, it’s witnessing the moment a Caregiver first engages with one of our programs—especially when it’s their first experience with any kind of Caregiver support. Many seem to have a look of disbelief, almost as if they can’t believe they are the focus of the program, that they are the mission of our organization.
Because Caregivers become so laser-focused on the person(s) they’re caring for, this experience can feel jarring—but in the best possible way.” – Kyle Woody Finding Healing in the Journey
“I have been with Jack’s for two years and a few months. Before starting, I anticipated that I would witness a lot of sadness, grief, and fear. What I didn’t expect was that, over time, I would also witness so much healing.
Spending time with these guys has helped me notice patterns. Many years ago, during my own caregiving experience (and what followed), I bristled at the idea that I might one day feel less sad and alone. Now, I recognize that same resistance in the eyes of the fellas who meet for coffee or connect online. I’m delighted when someone I’m coaching shares that, with time, they feel more equipped to manage what once seemed like an unmanageable existence. Being a witness to these transformations—seeing guys change their minds and hearts—is what fills my Jack’s bucket.” – Jeff Myhre Building Meaningful Connections
“When my husband was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer in 2012, I felt so alone. He had a lot of support, but I didn’t. We had only been married for three years, so I was still new to his family, and as an introvert, I hadn’t built many relationships.
A few years later, I heard about Jack’s and thought it was a fantastic concept. About a year after that, they held their first Klatch. Since it was open to both men and women, I stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to attend. It was such an amazing experience that I volunteered to help facilitate future Klatches. At every Klatch, I saw the profound impact it had on Caregivers—giving them a space to meet others in similar situations and talk openly about their lives. Now, with CaregiverCON, even more Caregivers have the opportunity to experience this incredible level of support. It continues to move me every single time.” – Heather Erickson How You Can Help
