I recently attended the first Storm Chase Experience hosted by Jeff Fjeld, a member of Jack’s Caregiver Coalition. Despite the chilly mid-May weather, we enjoyed a warm fire pit, tasty chicken wings, delicious grilled food from the Storm Chaser Mobile Kitchen, and a warm, inviting garage. Jeff and the volunteers provided outstanding hospitality to the family, neighbors, and friends who gathered as a community to continue to support Jeff and learn more about Jack’s Caregiver Coalition.

The Storm Chase Experience offered more than just good food and hospitality; it was a gathering filled with emotional resonance and camaraderie. Those gathered shared their personal stories of support and compassion in helping Jeff navigate his spouse, Julie's, cancer journey and in supporting the family during and after her loss.

The gathering included a table discussion on why and how Jack’s is dismantling the “hero fixes it alone mentality,” especially prevalent among male family caregivers. Many had heard from Jeff how Jack’s had supported him during the hard times and continues to offer support today. Jeff recently shared his experience hosting the event;

"The food was amazing. The whole thing was really well done. Especially the conversation during the meal. Think dinner conversation, but on a bigger scale. We've all heard about caregiving, but we really focused on it, and why it's so important to support men in that role." - Jeff Fjeld

Storm Chase Experiences raise awareness for Jack’s and encourage your community to donate to the organization to help cover the costs of our family caregiver programs and resources. They highlight the coalition’s mission to create environments where caregivers and communities flourish together, alleviating the isolation experienced during challenging times.
