Jack Pallas has spent his life caring for and about other people. I first spoke with this caregiver a couple days after Christmas 2024. Jack reached out on the 26th and wasn't expecting to start his relationship with us within 24 hours. He shared with me his wife Julie had passed away a month prior and that he was experiencing all kinds of feelings. Like many guys who reach out, this included relief for both Julie and himself.
His caregiving journey started in February of 2024. He and Julie were vacationing in Arizona when they received the call that she had stage four kidney cancer. Jack and Julie were numb and experienced the rollercoaster of both good and bad news from the medical team. In the late spring Julie needed round the clock care provided by her adult sons during the day and Jack taking the night, overnight and early morning shift.
Jack managed visitors, an abundance of home made delivered food, and the most difficult task, having frank conversations about the inevitable. Julie's funeral was attended by hundreds and hundreds of people in person and many thousands online. Jack had the support of his community, and he needed what Jack's has come to provide for him:
"To stay connected and to know that your not alone... to experience the company of these people that continue to thrive and survive...there's a lot of truth in the saying there is strength in numbers. Jack's is a prime example of that."
