When we first lose a loved one, many of us experience a range of emotions when it comes to their “stuff.” Some of us wanted to pack all of our loved one’s things away so that we aren’t reminded of who’s missing by the things that once belonged to them. Others take longer to let go of personal effects. Sometimes we keep them out of obligation or because we hope to hold on to our loved one through a connection they had with these items.
One thing sequel makers have is resiliency.
There comes a point when we realize that the boxes containing our loved one’s belongings are more of a burden than a blessing. Often, they sit packed in storage because we don’t know what to do with the items inside of them. Opening those boxes seems like an overwhelming task to undertake.
You don't have to do it alone,
Of course, you may want to ask a family member or a close friend to help you go through a box. Having support can make something overwhelming feel more manageable. Besides, memories are meant to be shared. Even though it may bring up old feelings of loss, it can also be a reminder of something beautiful you had and how far you have come in your healing.
Not everyone has a support system with whom they can be completely vulnerable. That’s where Jack’s Sequel Makers come in. We have been there. Many of us have our own boxes to unpack. Because of that, we have sequel makers who are happy to help you go through a box or two. |
